Church of St. Marcus was formed in 1441 having been offered to the jeronimous
frails by donation of king Afonso V, in 1452. The big construction works begun by then andvery few remains of the gothic period were left. Inside the church, you can see a magnificent manuelin style vault and, from the 16th century, the main altar designed by Nicolau Chanterene, one of the most important Portuguese sculpture works of all times. |
